Nathan M. Sutton, Attorney at Law
Admitted to practice law in the states of Kansas and Missouri 

Nate is a Kansas City native and counts his best friends as those he has known his whole life.  He received a B.S. in Accounting from William Jewell College (1986) and his law degree (1989) (where he served as an editor on the Law Review) and a Masters in Tax Law (1993) from  U.M.K.C. School of Law. During college and law school, he interned for Congressman Ike Skelton. Prior to law school, he worked for what was then referred to as a Big 8 Accounting Firm.  Upon graduation from law school, Nate clerked for the Honorable Andrew J. Higgins, Missouri Supreme Court Judge and the Honorable Elmo B. Hunter, U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Missouri, before joining a large local law firm and then starting his own practice and buying his own office building. 

Nate is a member of Rotary Club, Eastern Kansas Estate Planning Council and Lord of Life Lutheran Church.  He is a graduate of the Leadership Overland Park program, sponsored by the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce, and was selected to the "40 under 40" (naming 40 leaders under the age of 40).  He serves on the Ethics Committee of the Kansas Bar Association and is on the Ethics and Grievance Panel for the Johnson County Bar Association and investigates ethics complaints.  He has served as a council member at church.  He plays tennis weekly and has played since high school and enjoys fishing and going to the Lake.

Nate frequently lectures on estate planning, probate, tax and business succession planning for the Bar Association, continuing legal education seminars, the National Business Institute, Lorman's, local banks, financial institutions and churches.  To contact Nate, call him at the office or if urgent, contact him on his cell at 913-226-0440

Legal Staff 

Janet is a legal assistant and previously worked in the human resources department of a Fortune 100 corporation.  Janet assists with estate planning,  asset transfers and schedules appointments. 

Rachel has been with Sutton Law Office since 2001.  She received her paralegal certificate in 2001 with a 4.0 grade point average.  She assists with probate and corporate matters. 

Shannon, Nate's wife, assists part-time with general office matters and married into the practice in 1998 and is also responsible our two children.
